“We were confident that the very exhaustive consultation process undertaken by Sarah Wigglesworth Architects as a pre-requisite to the design development would give good results. This is why we felt it appropriate to take the finished design to the *Design Commission for Wales.
This has been very much a grass roots project which has been built up through a long process of consultation and development with many people from South Wales giving significant support through participation of events and voluntary activity.
The Design Commission for Wales conducts a rigorous assessment of all aspects of the proposed plan with some of Wales’s most respected practitioners in every field. This is great news for us as an organisation and a vindication of all the time and energy it has taken. We not only have a design that is sympathetic to our needs and which will fully support the range of activities within the building, we have also a design of considerable architectural merit.“
It was a great opportunity for Swansea Print Workshop to work with an architect who listens carefully to the brief and involves the client in every stage of the decision making to find good design solutions for practical problems. The process threw up all sorts of questions which we had to find answers to – by visiting other print centres in the uk, centres of excellence we aspire to and by making decisions about what we thought was right for us in Swansea.”
